What to Expect
I offer a free initial phone consultation (15 minutes) or you may email me your questions to initiate the process. During the initial phone call, we will discuss your concerns and reasons for seeking therapy. Because research has shown that therapy is most successful when you connect with your therapist, we will assess that connection and if you feel that it is a good fit, we will schedule an appointment. The first appointment allows me to get to know you and further understand what brings you into therapy. Together we will set goals that will guide the therapy process. In additional sessions we will work towards finding solutions to the challenges that you are facing.
Family sessions will often include the entire family, or segments of the family (parents, kids or a combination) and the session may contain a mixture of these elements.
Couples will meet with me for the first session together, one session separately for each partner and then together for the remaining sessions.
When meeting with children or adolescents, I will meet with the parents to begin with for either a portion or the entire first session, depending on the initial phone or email contact. This contact will allow me to understand the nature and background of the presenting issues. Working from a perspective that the family is key component to helping children and teens with their individual issues , I will involve the parents as often as possible.
